Whataburger of Mesquite is an 18 unit franchisee of Whataburger. In 1950 Whataburger founder Harmon Dobson had a bold idea: to serve a burger so big that it took two hands to hold, and so good that after a single bite customers couldn't help but exclaim, “What a burger!” Six decades later there are now more than 750 Whataburgers across the country. Mirus is proud to serve a number of the company's franchisees, making their data more accessible and helping them better run their business.

At our most recent user conference I had a chance to sit down with Christine Corley from Whataburger of Mesquite and learn about how they are using Mirus to manage their business.

How are you using Mirus?

I specifically track sales, deposits, beginning and ending inventory, payroll, and hours worked.

Operations uses Mirus extensively at this time and we are looking forward to using it better as a managerial team. We use a lot of exception reports. We have to send day part reporting to corporate so we pull that data from Mirus. We’re also tracking labor, overtime, discounts, and coupons.

What were you using before Mirus?

Excel and Access.

How did you find out about Mirus?

We heard about Mirus through another Whataburger franchisee. We were frustrated with our Point of Sale software and the limitations they were giving us as a franchisee. They weren’t opening up some things that we needed. We were not able to see an overall picture, everything was being done store by store, and we did that 18 times. Through Mirus we’re able to look at an overall picture, which has been the best for our company so far.

Why would a franchisee need Mirus?

Corporate has not given us any specific software that we have to utilize. Of course they dictate our inventory that we have to buy from their suppliers but as far as record keeping, we are able to choose what best suits our business needs.

How has Mirus improved your reporting?

There is a lot less key input error because we are able to read right from the data. We no longer have to print out a report and then go re-enter it to create a report.

How has that helped?

Well, there’s a lot less griping. We actually have more time now to call the stores and track down things like deposits. It opens people up to do their job without as much stress.

Describe your relationship with your account coordinator.

Our account coordinator is very helpful to us. When we know what we need we just simply call her and ask her how to do it and more often than not she’s able to build it right for us.

How do you see yourself using Mirus in the future?

I’m having a problem understanding Mirus is not stagnant. It’s not, this is what we have, and these are the parameters you have to work within this. That’s not Mirus. Just yesterday I told my account coordinator I’ve got a time selection that I’m going to need and she said we could go build that time selection for you.

She explained to me that she can go in and set those parameters up for me and I won’t have to be limited like I thought I was to a particular two-week period.

What I see in the future is we can now bring in all these data sources, have better comparisons, better analysis, and better managerial tools than the old way of not having all those resources available. I think now that the resources will be available we can move forward with the way we’re using Mirus and be better managers of the business.
